Gabby & Lydia

Murray Hill, NY

Gabby and Lydia met in September 2018 on a more obscure dating app called HER. HER, an app targeted toward the female-identifying or non-binary LGBTQ+ population, has a user base of roughly three million people and gives queer women an app just for them. But its UI compared to apps like Tinder or Bumble lacks 21st century sophistication, to the extent that Lydia and Gabby could not keep a straight face when saying they met on HER. About two weeks after they met on the app, Gabby and Lydia took the plunge and went on a first a dive bar adorned with bras hanging from the ceiling. Right before their first date, it started pouring – Lydia lucked out and missed the rain. But Gabby? Not so much. "Before I even got there, I texted Lydia I needed to pat myself down." And that's when Lydia knew Gabby was different, which led to many other dates. On their third date, Lydia stole a drink menu from the bar.

Despite the fact they’ve been hooking up since September, Gabby and Lydia remain non-exclusive and non-monogamous. They are simply “gal pals.”
